The first companies in the elevator and escalator industry have registered for the E2 Forum on September 21 and 22, 2022 in Frankfurt am Main. "The industry has come through the corona crisis well thanks to stable development in the construction industry. As a result, the topic of personal safety has also taken on a new significance. In addition, hygiene protection measures and concepts have been developed and implemented," said Dr. Peter Hug, Managing Director of the VDMA Elevators and Escalators Trade Association at the start of the year. "And also the energy and climate policy discussion is on the manufacturers’ agenda. Digitalisation and material efficiency are setting the direction here for smarter mobility and usability, better comfort, more safety and first-class system availability."
The VDMA trade association represents a good 90 percent of the German elevator and escalator market and is cooperation partner of the organiser Messe Frankfurt on behalf of the E2 Forum Frankfurt. Messe Frankfurt communicates the registered exhibiting companies up to date in the social network channel of the E2 Forum on LinkedIn.
Experts for the building mobility ecosystem
Swiss elevator specialist Schindler is one of the major internationally active manufacturers that have already registered for the upcoming E2 Forum Frankfurt: They manufacture elevators and escalators in total concepts for digital integration into building technology. "For us, the focus in September will be on presenting and discussing our digital elevator solutions – from planning and operating to digital media in the elevator," says Dr. Meinolf Pohle, CEO of Schindler Germany.
Experts for individual components, such as Meiller and Wittur, and for data technology and for control systems, such as New Lift and Telegärtner Elektronik, have also announced their participation. With new solutions, they too are expecting the 2022 trade fair dates to be reinstated. Klaus Gerhards, Managing Director of Wittur Germany, reports: "The modernisation of elevator systems goes hand in hand with high demands in terms of technology and aesthetics – for the car as well as for the car or landing door that is visible from the outside. Architecture, specialist planning and building management can look forward to appealing and cost-effective solutions."
Adrian Gollasch, Sales Manager at Telegärtner Elektronik, sees the benefits of advancing digitalisation for lift technology by means of modern emergency call and control technology as elementary: "The digitalisation of the past two years in the general working environment has made it clear to us that we have to think and act in a more modern and future-oriented way. There is potential especially in the area of emergency call and control systems. Digitalisation can make a decisive contribution to further lowering barriers with regard to communication in elevator emergency calls, among other things. Furthermore, innovative solutions such as on-demand maintenance offer an opportunity both in terms of elevator safety and sustainability, since the systems are serviced when actually needed."
Live, contactful and under one roof, this dialogue of future topics will take place at the E2 Forum Frankfurt with a series of contact and conference formats and the Networking Evening. For the exhibition, conference lectures, workshops, meetings and presentations, the premises in the Congress Center of Messe Frankfurt (CMF) will be available as planned.
The building mobility sector is booming
The economic trend in the market for elevators and escalators is closely related to the development of the relevant construction activity in new and existing buildings. In the pandemic year 2020, German elevator manufacturers recorded a 2.6 percent increase in new orders in terms of units. This corresponds to a seven percent increase in sales to 1.1 billion euros, according to the latest economic report published by the VDMA trade association for elevators and escalators. According to the VDMA's analysis of the first pandemic phase, the impact on the new installations business has been minimal for the time being, despite initial material bottlenecks and short-time working. Even in the first half of 2021, the companies organised in the VDMA still recorded sales growth.
The development in the existing building stock had been positively influenced by the retrofitting obligation to the emergency call with two-way communication system on the cut-off date of December 31, 2020: The 2020 modernisation business accordingly rose by three percent. In the first half of 2021, however, the industry recorded a twelve percent decline in order intake due to this base effect. The new installations business of elevator manufacturers in Europe recorded an overall decline of eight percent for 2020 compared to the previous year. "The pandemic has had a mixed impact on the elevator industry across Europe. There were sharp declines in the most important core markets in particular: France, Italy, Spain and the UK were the main countries affected here," said Peter Hug.
According to the VDMA, there are currently around 800,000 elevator systems installed in Germany, of which around 692,000 are used for passenger transportation. In the case of escalators, the stock is around 37,000 installations. The industry employs around 17,000 people.
E2 events for the building services industry
The vertical-horizontal mobility of people and goods in urban infrastructures requires intelligent and connected building systems technology. Messe Frankfurt brings together all relevant players who are looking for or offering market-ready solutions to these challenges and has, thus, created a network of experts that is unrivalled anywhere in the world: Building Technologies. In the building technology sector, Messe Frankfurt organises a total of 24 trade fairs on three continents, including the two leading trade fair brands in the sector worldwide: Light + Building and ISH.
Accordingly, the trade fair organiser is expanding its marketing platforms and conferences around the globe. Today, Messe Frankfurt is represented with five events for lifts and escalators in America, Asia and Europe: With the International Elevator and Escalator (IEE) Expo in the metropolis of Mumbai, Messe Frankfurt provides the platform for the growing Indian market. The E2 Forums in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Milan (Italy) and in India's capital New Delhi round off the portfolio as innovation forums for cross-sector dialogue between the industry and operators in the real estate sector, planning and building technologies.
The E2 Forum Frankfurt will take place on 21 and 22 September 2022 (Wednesday and Thursday) at the Congress Center of Messe Frankfurt (CMF).
